Our planet Earth is getting more connected than ever. Technology helps us achieve engagement, as we can quickly share all the news, best moments, places, ideas, birthdays, victories, and sometimes sad and negative experiences. It gives us easy access to all information orbiting around us.

The truth is that because we are creative humans, we discover new ways to introduce ourselves, look for jobs, friendships, relationships, easy shopping, express how we feel and many more. If we use them correctly, social media is now the most powerful tool in our pockets.

Currently, there are around 20 social media platforms, but the most used social networks are Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, WeChat, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter and LinkedIn. All these have one thing in common: their target is to connect people.

We use these platforms as our primary source of information. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people and nations were digitally connected, statistically, more than ever. According to Statista, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide is 147 minutes per day, which means about 2 minutes per day more than last year.

More than half of the world is now active on Social Media.

Statistical information says there are around 3 billion Facebook users, with 1.9 billion active daily. Over 1 Million LinkedIn members publish content weekly, and Instagram has 1.4 Billion Users. YouTube has 2 billion active channels where users spend an average of 12’ per day.

People spend significantly many hours searching and looking at very different content on Social Media, and because of that, it creates not only a need to post new things but also creates a new way of thinking about them. Like everything in life, Social Media has its trends that we need to know, or somehow we follow.

Every platform is expanding and developing on different scales. We know that Facebook evolved into Meta, and we will see the most significant changes there. Meta will provide a space for creators and businesses within the Metaverse. TikTok is very attractive to people, and we know that TikTok focuses on short-term video content. 

People are absorbing a lot of information as the day goes by. The data is running all over the network constantly. Some media channels are not considered relevant and trustworthy by the general public, but they impact Social Media platforms and the information running through them. It is challenging for people to avoid disinformation and choose who to trust.

While resharing or replicating information we find on the internet, it’s essential to double-check, find several sources that state similar information, and pay attention to the sponsored tag.

Regarding social media influencers, modern consumers expect authentic brand relationships and have begun to see through celebrity endorsements as the financial transactions they are. Nevertheless, influencer marketing is based on the trust and respect the consumer has built with an influencer. So nowadays, influencers are trying to stay more true to their value and respect the community they are assembling.

With this in mind, it relies on the consumer to understand how real and connected they should be while following someone on social media and trusting their advice.

In the end, social media keep us connected, but we play a crucial role in how we spend our time there and find information. That’s why we can enjoy spending good time on Social Media, educate ourselves, inform others, and interact with each other.
